How To Install Android OS on Your PC (Laptop)

There is no doubt that Android is most widely used mobile platform as of today. Every big and small mobile phone company has launched their Android based models suiting the pockets and budgets of every person. Why this OS has become so popular in such a small time frame is a question that needs to be answered, but it is also true that end user likes it like anything. Whether it’s ease of use or rich feature set or stability, it all depends upon user’s perspective.

One good news is that those people, who have still not tasted Android, can do so by installing this robust OS on their PC’s or Laptops as well. In fact there are more than one ways to do this. Here we have taken the two most popular (and probably easy) methods to run Android on your PC. Please take a look below,

Method 1 – By Using Virtual Machines Software Such as Oracle VM VirtualBox

Step1 – Download the Respective Files

You can use any Virtual Machine software, but here we have used Oracle VM VirtualBox. You need to download this software first and install in your computer. The installation is simple and pretty straightforward. You can download Oracle VM VirtualBox from this link.

Other piece of software that you will need to run Android on your PC is disk image (or iso file) of Android software. You can download it from this link.

Step2 – Once you have installed VM VirtualBox, you need to run this program from Start Menu or desktop shortcut. When you run this program, you will get the screen as displayed below,

Step3 – Click on New to create a new Virtual Device. Give suitable name to this device (in our case we have given Windroid).

For “Operating System” as well as “Version”, choose “Other”. Click Next.

Step4 – Here you need to select the amount of memory (RAM), which shall be used by Android. We have selected 1000 MB, but you can select more also. Click Next.

Step5 – In this step, you have to select the hard disk size, which Android shall be using. Recommended size is 2 GB.

Now you can play around with Android on your PC. You can even install apps on it, but as soon as you turn off the Virtual Machine, all your apps will go away.

Method 2 – By Creating a Bootable Image in CD

This method is quite simple indeed. What all you need to do is just burn the Android image (.iso file) onto a CD. This image is the same file that we have downloaded from code.google.com, mentioned in the above method. Once that is done, insert this CD in your CD drive and reboot your system, giving the option “Boot from CD” in the BIOS setup. This way your PC will boot from Android image present in the CD and your system will display Android run screen.
